WMATA recommends developer for transit-oriented development

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has selected a venture led by Donatelli Development as the developer for a transit-oriented development at the Fort Totten Metrorail Station in Washington, D.C.

Donatelli is proposing to build 345 residential units and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail at the site. The mixed use project also will be designed to achieve LEED Silver certification or higher for sustainability, WMATA officials said in a press release.

The 3.35-acre site is currently being used as a surface parking lot and is located just west of the station's entrance. The 422 daily parking spaces for Metro commuters will be replaced as part of the project.

The agreement has yet to be approved by the WMATA board. If approved, the project could begin construction in 2017, officials said.
