The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has reached a new agreement with the Tri-State Oversight Committee (TOC) to enhance safety and security of the Metrorail system.

WMATA and transportation officials from Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia signed a 14-page memorandum of understanding that addresses National Transportation Safety Board findings for improving TOC oversight.

The MOU clarifies the organizations’ roles and obligations, provides a "transparent" process for incident notification, expands access to incident and hazardous condition reports, and improves information sharing, according to WMATA.
