The American Association of Railroad Superintendents (AARS) last week presented its 2018 "Ones to Watch" awards to Pacific Harbor Line Inc.'s (PHL) Eric Flores and CN's Nathan Bailey.

The association bestows the awards to rail managers who have contributed to the success of their railroad and are expected to provide "valuable industry leadership," according to AARS.

A trainmaster with PHL, Flores began his career as a conductor in 2002 and was promoted to locomotive engineer in 2003. He advanced into management in 2005 as an assistant trainmaster and took on his current role two years later.

During his 16-year accident-free tenure at the railroad, Flores has had "a steady growth of responsibilities, especially in areas of safety and employee communication," PHL officials said in a press release.

AARS presented the awards at its 122nd annual meeting at the W Hotel in Chicago. The meeting followed Progressive Railroading's Rising Stars recognition dinner at the same location.
