The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association has hired Richard Sherman as assistant vice president of policy and industry affairs.

Sherman will support the association’s policy efforts with a particular focus on capital projects, infrastructure funding programs and agency procedures, ASLRRA officials said in its Feb. 8 newsletter.

Sherman has extensive experience in preparing federal grant applications, especially for freight-rail projects, ASLRRA officials said. He has helped secure more than $200 million in grant funding in the rail, maritime and highway sectors.

Additionally, he has supported rail consultancy projects overseas and worked for national governments and multilateral nongovernment organizations.

Previously, Sherman worked for lobbying firms Blank Rome Government Relations, and Chambers, Conlon and Hartwell, where he supported ASLRRA and other transportation clients.
