Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (CapMetro) board this week named Dottie Watkins interim CEO of the Austin, Texas, transit agency.
Watkins succeeds Randy Clarke, who is leaving CapMetro to become general manager and CEO of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority later this summer. He served as CapMetro CEO since 2018, while Watkins has been serving as deputy CEO.
Watkins has been with the transit agency since 1994, when she started as a part-time bus operator. She has since served in multiple leadership positions, including as chief customer officer/chief operating officer and vice president, bus operations and maintenance.
"The board has worked with Dottie for a long time, and we know that she's behind a lot of success at CapMetro," said CapMetro Chair Jeffrey Travillion in a press release. "I strongly believe in her leadership skills and know that the community and CapMetro staff will remain in great hands with her as the interim CEO."
