The Broward County Port Everglades Department has named Alexandra Cook director of finance of Port Everglades to succeed Mary Spiegel Meynarez, who plans to retire at month’s end.

Cook most recently was deputy comptroller and finance manager for the Office of the Clerk and Comptroller of Palm Beach County. During her 20-year career in public accounting, academia, private industry and commercial real estate, she has held numerous positions, including chief financial officer and marina developer.

Located near Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Port Everglades is a container and cruise port. The port plans to soon launch construction on a 42-acre intermodal container transfer facility. To be completed by mid-2014, the $72 million facility will be served by Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C.
