The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) last week named Richey Thompson chief engineer for the future TEX Rail commuter line, and Theresa Smith as director of TEX Rail procurement.

Prior to joining The T, Thompson worked for engineering firms CH2M Hill, URS Corp. and CP&Y. He has 15 years of experience in planning, design and construction of transit projects, including both light- and commuter-rail projects, according to a press release issued by The T.

Smith has been involved with the The T's commuter-rail team since 2011 as senior document control specialist.

Following approval from the Federal Transit Administration, the TEX Rail project entered the engineering phase earlier this month. Officials expect the line to open in 2018.

When completed, the rail line will operate from downtown Fort Worth, northeast across Tarrant County to Grapevine and then to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
