Maryland Gov. Wes Moore last week announced the appointment of Paul Wiedefeld as the state's next transportation secretary.

Wiedefeld is the former general manager and CEO of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, where he served from 2015 to 2022. After retiring from WMATA last year, he joined HDR Inc. as vice president and director of the firm's U.S. Northeast transportation business.

"Paul is an experienced leader whom I'm proud to have join my team," said Moore in a press release. "Maryland deserves transportation options that will make us more competitive and more equitable, and I know that with Paul's help we will create a transportation system that does just that."

Prior to joining WMATA, Wiedefeld was CEO of the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport for 10 years. He also served a stint as administrator of the Maryland Transit Administration.
