GoRail President Michael Gaynor has died after a battle with cancer, the organization announced yesterday.

Gaynor was named president of GoRail in 2025. The organization is a nonprofit coalition of community leaders who support freight-rail transportation.

Gaynor joined the group in 2007 as a Midwest state organizer in his home state of Ohio. He became national field director in 2010, and then assistant vice president of field operations in 2015 to lead GoRail’s team of organizers.

"Michael’s enduring imprint can be seen across our team and work. He was a respected leader, a tireless advocate for freight rail, and a valued colleague to so many across the industry. We will miss and think of him every day," GoRail officials said in a prepared statement.

Gaynor is survived by his wife Elizabeth and two children.

GoRail has invited industry representatives who knew Gaynor to post their memories of him on the organization's website
