The Indiana Rail Road Co.'s (INRD) board has appointed Derrick Wright president and CEO, effective Jan. 16.

He succeeds former president and CEO Joe Gioe, who joined Cando Rail & Terminals as vice president of service delivery in November 2025

Wright joined INRD in November 2022 as vice president of operations and mechanical. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience with Class I, regional and short-line railroads, INRD officials said in a press release.

Prior to joining INRD, Wright was chief operating officer at the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District. He also previously served as vice president of operations for Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services Inc., where he managed operations for 15 short lines and regionals.

Wright began his railroad career at CSX, where over the years he served as yardmaster, trainmaster, terminal manager and superintendent.

“Derrick’s deep industry knowledge and leadership experience make him the ideal choice to
guide INRD into its next chapter,” INRD board officials said. “We are confident that
under his leadership, INRD will continue to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative transportation
solutions for our customers.”
