Metra's board has selected Deputy Executive Director/Chief Operations Officer Donald Orseno as the agency's interim executive director and chief executive officer.A lifelong railroader, Orseno's understanding of the Chicago Railroad Terminal District will "assure that Metra continues to operate safely and efficiently," agency officials said in a prepared statement.Orseno's appointment follows months of agency turmoil, including the resignation of previous CEO Alex Clifford and several board members."Mr. Orseno's no-nonsense approach will move Metra forward," agency officials said.Orseno has worked in the railroad industry for 40 years. A Chicago-area native, he began his career as a Rock Island Railroad trainman. Since joining Metra in 1984, he has held several management positions prior to his current role, including senior trainmaster, director of mechanical, director of suburban operations, director of safety and rules, chief customer serve officer and chief transportation officer.Orseno's appointment is a response to comments from various constituents that the agency is in need of a leader until the the board can fill the post permanently, Metra officials said. The decision continues the board's response to concerns raised in the Regional Transportation Authority's preliminary audit, they added.
