The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority's (MARTA) board has named Keith Parker general manager and chief executive officer to succeed Beverly Scott, whose contract expires in December. Last month, Scott was named GM of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Since July 2009, Parker has served as president and CEO of VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, Texas, which provides streetcar, bus and paratransit services to 150,000 riders daily. Previously, he served as CEO and chief operating officer for the Charlotte Area Transit System, where he helped develop plans for light-rail service.

"We strongly believe that Keith Parker is the best choice for MARTA," said Chairman Frederick Daniels in a prepared statement.

Parker also served stints as assistant city manager for the city of Charlotte, CEO for the Clark County Transit Authority in Vancouver, Wash., and deputy director of a transit agency in Richmond, Va. He is a certified urban planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.
