MTA Metro-North Railroad recently named Sherry Herrington chief of operations services, responsible for overseeing operations of more than 600 Metro-North, Amtrak and freight trains on the 400-mile system.

She will manage rail traffic controllers and the operations control center, engineers and conductors, ticket selling operations and rolling stock.

Herrington will be the first woman to head Metro-North’s train operations, according to a prepared statement. In 1981, she became one of the northeast region’s first female locomotive engineers.
