Yesterday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recommended Patrick Foye to serve as executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).

If approved by PANYNJ’s board, Foye will succeed Christopher Ward, who will remain executive director until month’s end, according to a Cuomo press release. Ward has agreed to serve as an adviser to PANYNJ until year’s end.

Foye currently is Cuomo’s deputy secretary of economic development, a role in which he manages the state’s initiatives for economic recovery, investment and job creation. He also oversees the Empire State Development Corp. Previously, Foye served as deputy county executive for Nassau County.

In addition, Cuomo plans to nominate James Rubin and Rossana Rosado to PANYNJ’s board. He also called on the board to approve the consolidation of the Moynihan Station Development Corp. and Lower Management Development Corp. (LMDC) operations into the authority.

“Too many different agencies doing the same or closely related work makes little sense,” Cuomo said. “The port authority is best situated to oversee the development at Moynihan Station and the orderly wind down of the LMDC, and these changes will consolidate responsibility within the authority.”
