Last week, the National Mediation Board (NMB) announced Linda Puchala was elected chairman for the second time. Harry Hoglander — whose one-year term as chairman expired June 30 — and Elizabeth Dougherty will continue to serve as board members.

Puchala was confirmed as a NMB member in May 2009. She previously completed the chairmanship term of her predecessor, which expired on June 30, 2009. Her current term on the board runs through June 30, 2012.

Puchala previously served the NMB, which she joined in 1999, as a senior mediator, associate director of alternative dispute resolution services and mediator. She has 40 years of labor relations experience.

Meanwhile, President Obama has re-nominated Deborah Hersman to chair the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Her chairmanship term expired June 30.

An NTSB member since June 2004, Hersman became the board’s 12th chairman in July 2009. Prior to joining the board, she was a senior professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and served as staff director and senior legislative aide to former Rep. Bob Wise (D-W.Va.).
