Robert Puentes was named president and chief executive officer of the Eno Center for Transportation, effective April 11.

He succeeds Joshua Schank, who stepped down as the center's CEO in October 2015 to serve as chief innovation officer at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Puentes currently directs the Metropolitan Infrastructure Initiative at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. The initiative was established to address pressing transportation and infrastructure challenges facing metropolitan regions in the United States and around the world, Eno officials said in a press release.

While at Brookings, Puentes' work focused on metropolitan growth and development topics. In 2000, he began his tenure with the organization as senior research manager.

He'll remain affiliated with Brookings as a nonresident senior fellow.

"We believe that his experience in research and policy will further build our reputation as an impartial thought leader and a source of education and development for professionals throughout the transportation industry. For many years he has been one of the leading and most influential voices on transportation issues – leadership which he will now bring to Eno," said Eno Chairman Lillian Borrone.
