The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver announced this week that Chief of Police and Emergency Management Bob Grado is stepping down to pursue other endeavors.
As police chief, Grado has led several initiatives, including the Transit Watch programs and bolstering recruiting, testing and background investigation programs for prospective hires. He also saved the transit agency millions of dollars in agency liability claim savings by expanding training for police officers and formalizing video investigations, RTD officials said in a press release.
Grado has served the agency since 2010, starting out as a police commander, responsible for emergency services. He became acting chief of police in March 2017, and permanently took on the role in July later that year.
Grado leaves RTD and the public sector after a 35-year career in law enforcement.
"I have had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented genius level engineers on technology projects, and had the opportunity to pioneer new technology and incident management programs that have been duplicated and recognized around the world," he said.
