The Regional Transportation District-Denver (RTD) has appointed Timothy Tyran as chief safety officer and director of safety and environmental compliance.

Tyran has more than 35 years of experience in aviation and mass transportation in the United States and Canada, RTD officials said in a press release. At RTD, he will manage safety programs and conduct safety and environmental audits.

He joins RTD from Amtrak, where he served as director of system safety programs. Prior to that, he was CSO at the Maryland Department of Transportation/Maryland Transit Administration; rail and facilities safety manager at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority; and safety management system manager for technical operations at American Airlines.

Tyran chairs the American Public Transportation Association's technology for safety, security and risk management subcommittee, which leads to reduce operational hazards at transit systems across the country.
