The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Co. (IHB) recently named Jim Roots general manager to succeed Gary Gibson, who retired.

With 37 years’ experience in railroad operations, Roots previously held various operating positions at CSX Transportation, including GM of service planning and assistant vice president of service design.

IHB operates a 54-mile mainline that circles Chicago from O’Hare International Airport to northwest Indiana. The switching carrier, which interchanges with 16 railroads in and around the Windy City, also operates 266 miles of yard and siding track.
