For the second time, Anthony Shorris will serve as executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The authority recently named Shorris — who served as the authority’s first executive director between 1991 and 1995 — to the top post to succeed Kenneth Ringler Jr.

Shorris most recently was a faculty member at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and director of the Policy Research Institute for the Region. He previously served as deputy chancellor for operations and policy for the New York City Board of Education and New York City commissioner of finance under former Mayor Edward Koch.

Shorris will be responsible for the Port Authority Trans-Hudson passenger-rail system, as well as the region’s tunnels and bridges, airports and ports.
