Cando Rail & Terminals has appointed Lisa Smith to a newly created position: assistant vice president of safety, environmental and regulatory.

Most recently director of corporate safety, she now will be responsible for the execution and compliance of Cando’s integrated safety, environmental and regulatory strategies and programs. Smith joined Cando in 2016 as a safety officer.

She previously served Canadian Pacific as a conductor, locomotive engineer and manager, gaining strong operational and safety experience, Cando officials said in a press release.

"Lisa has led many initiatives that have had tremendous positive impacts on [our] safety performance and culture. Her leadership and mentorship abilities have been instrumental in ensuring safety is the top priority," said Cando President and CEO  Brian Cornick. "She is also bringing her knowledge and experience to the Cando executive table as a strategic and tactical business partner."

Cando provides short-line operations, industrial switching, material handling, terminal and transload, rail-car staging, train assembly and other related services.
