Sound Transit has hired Maria Doucettperry as chief diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) officer.

Doucettperry will oversee strategies ensuring the transit agency "embodies its values in all facets of serving the public and in its internal operations," Sound Transit officials said in a press release. She starts her new job March 27.

Most recently, Doucettperry served as director of equal opportunity and Title IX at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she oversaw compliance with federal and state mandates related to equal opportunity, nondiscrimination and gender equity. Before that, she spent 20 years as a military attorney handling criminal and civil cases.

She "will play a key role holding Sound Transit accountable to advancing and elevating our values and commitments for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront of everything we do,” said Sound Transit CEO Julie Timm.
