Sany Zein has been appointed the new president and general manager of British Columbia Rapid Transit Co., which operates SkyTrain and the West Coast Express for TransLink in Vancouver.

Zein will begin his new role on Oct. 3. An engineer, he has extensive knowledge of the rail industry and more than 30 years of experience in transportation, TransLink officials said in a press release.

Zein is vice president of transit and transportation for Jacobs Solutions Inc., where he develops strategic growth plans for major rail initiatives across Canada. Previously, he served TransLink for more than 12 years, including a stint as VP of engineering from 2016 to 2021.

"We are pleased to welcome back Sany to the organization," said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. "With over 30 years of experience in the transportation industry, Sany brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role as we continue to rebuild ridership and prepare to expand service across the region."

Zein succeeds Mike Richard, who has served as acting president and GM while the BCRTC board searched for a permanent candidate. Once Zein assumes the role, Richard will return to his former role of VP of operations.
