UP shuffles transportation department staff

Yesterday, Union Pacific Railroad announced three promotions and one appointment in the transportation department.

The Class I promoted Shane Keller to assistant vice president of locomotive distribution; Brian Gorton, to general superintendent-transportation services for the San Antonio Service Unit to succeed Keller; and Steve Truit, to superintendent-transportation services of the Wichita Service Unit to succeed Gorton. UP also named Randy Hanks general director-transportation planning.

Keller will be responsible for the strategic positioning and productivity of more than 8,000 locomotives. Since joining UP in 1990 as a student intern, he has held a various operating positions, including superintendent of transportation services for the St. Louis Service Unit and general superintendent-transportation services in North Platte, Neb.

Gorton previously served as director-road operations and director-transportation services. Prior to joining UP in 1998, he held various operations department and track maintenance positions at Conrail.

Most recently a transportation superintendent, Truit has served stints as director of road operations and director of terminal operations. Prior to joining UP in 20004, he served CSX Transportation as trainmaster, terminal superintendent, superintendent and general manager.

Finally, Hanks — who began his railroading career with BNSF Railway Co. in 1980 and joined the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1991 — has held various operations department positions, including manager-locomotive planning, director-locomotive management and superintendent-network control.
