U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) late last week met with representatives from Balfour Beatty Rail for a tour of the company's facility in Fleming Island, Fla.

While there, Yoho also discussed public policy priorities for the rail industry, according to a press release from the Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA), of which Balfour Beatty Rail is a member.

A division of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Balfour Beatty Rail is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., and specializes in construction and maintenance services for both public- and private-sector railroads.

"It was a pleasure to host Congressman Yoho for a tour of our Fleming Island facility,” said Mark Snailham, vice president of Balfour Beatty Rail. "Jacksonville’s an important rail hub in America. Locating here gives us access to Class Is, short lines, engineering companies, and other major suppliers, allowing us to compete for and win projects across the nation."

Other attendees included Colin Kendrick, director of contract management at Balfour Beatty Rail; William Roseborough, director-project management at CSX Corp.; Joe Arbona, assistant vice president of government affairs at Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services; and Sean Winkler, grassroots coordinator at REMSA.

The group touched on Congress' recent decision to extend the deadline for positive train control implementation to 2018, along with the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Sarah Feinberg as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration.

Additionally, the group highlighted that Congress has not yet extended the short-line tax credit, which is set to go to conference on a long-term transportation bill, REMSA officials said.

Yoho is a co-sponsor of House bill H.R. 721, which extends the tax credit.
