VIA Rail Canada Inc. President and CEO Mario Peloquin will retire effective Jan. 15, 2026, concluding a 41-year career in the rail industry.

Canadian Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon on Dec. 16 announced Peloquin's retirement in a prepared statement.

Peloquin was appointed president and CEO of VIA Rail in June 2023. He started his career at CN and later held senior roles focusing on rail safety at Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Peloquin later served in executive positions at Siemens Mobility, AECOM, Thales Canada and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City.

Prior to joining VIA Rail, Peloquin was executive vice president of major projects for Keolis Group, according to a biography on the Railway Association of Canada's website.

"I am grateful for the relationships built along the way and for the professionalism of the VIA Rail team. I leave with confidence in the organization’s people and its future," Peloquin said in a LinkedIn post announcing his retirement.
