The Railway Supply Institute has named Lee Verhey executive director of its Committee on Tank Cars, effective May 23.
Currently RSI's director of regulatory and industry affairs, Verhey will succeed retiring Vice Chair John Byrne, who has led the committee since 2016.
"Since joining RSI, Lee has consistently demonstrated his extensive technical knowledge of rail tank-car specifications, manufacturing, repair and maintenance," said RSI President Patty Long in a press release.
Before joining RSI in 2020, Verhey served as senior vice president of quality at TrinityRail. He has more than 40 years of experience in rail-car operations. As RSI’s director of regulatory and industry affairs, Verhey has overseen the management of several RSI technical committees, including the Equipment Leasing Committee, the American Railway Car Institute and the Quality Assurance Committee.
Byrne announced earlier this year that he would retire after more than 40 years in the industry, having spent the past six with RSI. He began his career in Chicago at North American Car Co. and went on to spend nearly 38 years at GE Capital, most recently serving as manager of regulatory compliance and quality.
