Wabtec Corp. has signed a $30 million contract to provide positive train control (PTC) equipment and services for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which operates the South Shore Line running from Chicago to South Bend, Ind.

The contract is with Parsons Transportation Group, which will serve as the system integrator, Wabtec officials said in a press release.

Under the contract, Wabtec will provide its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS®) equipment, as well as TMDS® dispatch and back office systems that will include interfaces to the traction power system, wayside design, training and related services.

The system will be fully interoperable with Metra's PTC system, Wabtec officials said.

The contract is expected to be completed in 2018.

"We have worked with Parsons for several years to develop and design various commuter PTC programs, and we are pleased to work with them on this implementation," said Wabtec President and Chief Executive Officer Raymond Betler.
