AAR rolls out 2009 version of 'Freight Rail Works campaign

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) recently launched the 2009 campaign for "Freight Rail Works," which promotes freight rail's fuel efficiency and environmental benefits through television, radio, print and online ads.

For example, a "big numbers" ad features real people advocating freight-rail benefits and promotes fuel savings, such as by stressing that a train can move one ton of freight 436 miles on one gallon of fuel.

The 2009 Freight Rail Works campaign echoes the 2008 campaign's message: Railroads are the most efficient and most environmentally sound way to move freight, the AAR said.

"Freight rail promotes sustainability and a better quality of life," said AAR President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Hamberger in a prepared statement "The ability of our trains to ease congestion, reduce pollution, and improve energy efficiency, goes a long way toward ensuring a cleaner, safer and more efficient future for all Americans."

The AAR maintains a Web site at www.freightrailworks.org to provide information on the campaign, including the latest ads.
