Association of American Railroads Aug. 30 announced an addition to its Weekly Railroad Traffic Report (WRT) that'll move AAR closer to its goal of providing traffic data for North America's three countries.

Beginning in WRT Week 34, AAR plans to feature carload and intermodal traffic data for Transportación Ferroviaria Mexicana S.A. de C.V. in a special third section of the report on page 18.

"The expansion of the WRT to include freight railroad traffic in Mexico will contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of the North American and global marketplaces, and highlight the railroads increasing role in international trade," said AAR Vice President, Policy Craig Rockey in a prepared statement, adding that AAR plans in the near future to add other Mexican rail carriers to WRT.

AAR by year-end would provide TFM traffic data for weeks prior to 34, enabling the association to fully incorporate TFM data into WRT at the beginning of 2002, including cumulative figures and year-to-year comparisons.
