On Monday, Anchor Drilling Fluids USA Inc. announced the opening of a drilling fluids production facility in Wellsville, Ohio. The state's first permanent drilling fluids operation, the facility will serve the emerging oil and gas production industries in the Marcellus and Utica shales, Anchor Drilling officials said in a prepared statement.

Located in the Columbiana County Port Authority's Wellsville Intermodal Industrial Park, the 10,000-barrel facility will produce and store environmentally friendly fluids that are used to drill oil and gas wells in the shales. Columbiana County is served by CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway and the Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad, the port authority's regional railroad.

"The Utica Shale reportedly has recoverable reserves of over 940 million barrels of oil and 38 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Development of this U.S. energy resource will significantly contribute to long-term economic growth and job creation in Ohio and the region," said Anchor Drilling President Phil West.
