BLE continues to bargain with national carriers' committee for engineer-friendlier agreement

Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers' national wage committee in late February met with National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC) to resume national-agreement negotiations, which are expected to continue well into spring.
BLE International President Don Hahs advised NCCC Chairman Robert Allen that negotiations were dragging on, and that NCCC's tentative United Transportation Union agreement — reached in 2000 — didn't adequately address locomotive engineers' concerns, according to a statement prepared March 1.
"Locomotive engineers are the most important and productive employees in
the railroad industry and they certainly deserve to be compensated and
treated as such by the carriers," Hahs said.
BLE plans to hold additional NCCC meetings April 8 and 9, and May 21 and 22.
