BNSF Railway Co. has taken another step toward constructing its third logistics park. Yesterday, the Class I announced it reached an agreement with The Allen Group to develop a park near Gardner, Kan.
BNSF and The Allen Group will jointly develop the 1,000-acre logistics park, which will feature a 350-acre intermodal terminal, distribution centers and warehouses. The railroad expects to complete design plans for the intermodal facility in the next few months and begin construction in 2007. The terminal is scheduled to launch operations in late 2008.
BNSF currently operates Logistics Park-AllianceTexas near Fort Worth and Logistics Park-Chicago in Elwood, Ill.
The Class I also announced it reached a 10-year agreement with Interpool Inc. to manage domestic chassis pools, and supply chassis at all BNSF domestic container terminals for the railroad and terminal users, including truckload carriers and intermodal marketing companies.
Interpool will supply BNSF about 24,000 48- and 53-foot chassis by year’s end. The company also will lease pool chassis to BNSF customers under user agreements, and manage chassis supply and maintenance.
