BNSF Railway Co. has set another coal train loading record in the Powder River Basin (PRB). In June, the Class I loaded an all-time-high average of 50.4 coal trains per day at Wyoming and Montana mines, breaking the previous record of 50.1 trains per day set in May.

Year-to-date through July 2, BNSF’s average daily loadings in the PRB reached 48.8 trains, up 10.2 percent compared with the same 2005 period.

On a system-wide basis in June, BNSF averaged 56.1 daily coal train loadings, which also reached a new high-water mark. Through July 3, the railroad loaded a total of 142.7 million tons of coal, up 9.6 percent compared with the same 2005 period.
