On Wednesday, Burlington Northern Santa Fe plans to open a high-tech locomotive fueling facility in Hauser, Idaho, where five of the railroad's mainlines converge.

Each day, about 25 locomotives will enter the facility to obtain fuel, traction sand, lube oil and water in a 45-minute span. Locomotives currently are fueled at other Pacific Northwest locations, where it can take up to 10 hours to complete the fueling process The quick-stop process is designed to improve transit time.

Locomotives will be fueled over reinforced concrete platforms coated with multiple layers of industrial sealant to help protect the environment. The computer-controlled building features high-resolution video screens to enable employees to monitor the entire facility.
