Yesterday, President Obama announced 22 members of the new President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, including BNSF Railway Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Matt Rose.

Chaired by GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt, the council will focus on carrying out the president’s goal of finding ways to “out-innovate, out-educate and out-build” global competitors by equipping U.S. workers with the skills to succeed, encouraging the private sector to “hire and invest in American competitiveness,” and attracting top jobs and businesses to the United States, according to a statement issued by the White House.

Other council members include American Express Co. Chairman and CEO Kenneth Chenault; Southwest Airlines Chairman, President and CEO Gary Kelly; DuPont Chairman and CEO Ellen Kullman; Proctor & Gamble Chairman, President and CEO A.G. Lafley; Intel Corp. President and CEO Paul Otellini; Kodak Chairman and CEO Antonio Perez; NBCUniversal Chairman and Comcast Corp. Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts; Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg; and UBS Americas Chairman and UBS Investment Bank President Robert Wolf.

President Obama plans to name additional council members at a later date.
