Transborder freight moved by rail between the United States, Canada and Mexico in June rose 15.4% to $18.9 billion worth of goods from $16.4 billion in June 2021, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Freight moved in June by all modes of transportation between the three nations totaled $141.2 billion in value, a 21.8% increase compared with June 2021's level. Railed cargo represented 13.4% of all transborder freight moved between the nations in June.
Freight moved by rail between the United States and Canada in June totaled $11.1 billion worth of goods, while cargo moved between the United States and Mexico via rail that month reached $7.7 billion.
The top three busiest rail border ports during the month were Laredo, Texas, and Detroit and Port Huron, Michigan. The top three rail commodities transported by rail were vehicles and parts; minerals and fuels; and plastics.
