On June 23, Canadian National Railway Co. announced it appointed Harvey Joel to the newly created position of vice-president, logistics solutions.

Joel will be responsible for refining and expanding CN's transportation-solution services, including the CargoFlo, Transload and Supply Chain Logistics units.

Keith Reardon, assistant vice-president, CargoFlo and Transload, and Dan Bingeman, assistant vice-president, Supply Chain Logistics, will report to Joel.

He previously served in a number of senior sales and management positions for Canadian manufacturing and resource industry firms.

"Logistic services are an important growth area for CN, [and] Joel’s broad experience in logistics, marketing and sales will help us leverage our already considerable strengths in providing shippers and receivers value-added services that reduce costs across the supply chain, and make our customers more competitive in their markets," said Jim Foote, CN executive vice-president, sales and marketing, in a prepared statement.

A network of bulk-commodity transfer terminals, CargoFlo offers just-in-time deliveries and pick-ups to companies on and off CN's lines; Transload provides transfer services for rail and non-rail served pulp, paper, lumber and steel customers; and Supply Chain Logistics offers customized solutions — from off-loading and loading raw materials and finished products, to designing optimal distribution networks — designed to integrate and manage North American customers' non-rail supply-chain activities and shipments.
