CSXT, OmniTRAX partner to improve services for Atlanta industrial park shippers

On Friday, CSX Transportation announced it recently partnered with OmniTRAX Inc. to improve switching services and attract industrial development for the Fulton Industrial Business District outside Atlanta.

In February, CSXT completed phase one improvements in the district by installing 7,000 ties, 1,700 switch ties, and several track panels and turnouts, and increasing the capacity of its yard and storage tracks. The Class I also increased the frequency of switches for district shippers, and obtained commercial and development agreements with some customers.

Under terms of the partnership, short-line holding firm OmniTRAX will continue to find ways to improve switching services in the district and rely on its real-estate arm to pursue industrial development opportunities.

"Our partnership with OmniTRAX is another positive step toward providing the Fulton Business District the type of service it requires to become one of the Southeast’s major transportation hubs," said CSXT Regional Development Manager Gerry Nechvatal in a prepared statement. "Leveraging OmniTRAX's expertise and experience as a service provider, in conjunction with CSXT’s recent infrastructure investments, will foster continued growth and development of the area."

CSXT and OmniTRAX plan to create an "Integrated Logistics Center" in the district to provide shippers more services.

"OmniTRAX will provide frequent, reliable and flexible switching services, completing the crucial 'last mile' for CSXT’s over-the-road service," said Al Sauer, OmniTRAX executive vice president of marketing and strategic planning. "This includes CSXT's premium ExpressLane Service product from the West Coast."
