CSXT speeds New York-area service on Florida Special

New York shippers seeking expedited, non-stop rail service to the Sunshine State now can catch the Florida Special.
CSX Transportation Aug. 9 introduced the new direct New York City-to-Florida service, with Florida Special trains daily departing Newark, N.J., Monday through Saturday and arriving in Jacksonville, Fla., three days later, or Miami in five days.
The CSX Warehouse Connection, a network of more than 400 public distribution centers and CSX Corp. subsidiary TRANSFLO(SM) bulk transfer terminals located throughout Florida and the New York City area, would provide distribution options for the service and enable CSXT to access customers not served by rail.
"Florida Special service is both fast and economical because we limit the number of train handlings along the way," said Jim Howarth, CSXT vice president-manufactured products, adding that the service's efficiency and attractive transit times better enable the railroad to compete with trucks along the route.
