CSXT to introduce GenSet switchers at New York yard

advertisement

Earlier this year, CSX Transportation introduced GenSet locomotives at yards in Illinois, Michigan and New Jersey. Now, the Class I is unveiling the environmentally friendly switchers at a New York yard.

On Monday, CSXT will hold a ceremony at Oak Point Yard in the Bronx to introduce four ultra-low-emission GenSets. The locomotives are designed to reduce particulate matter emissions by 80 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent compared with a conventional switcher.

The GenSets — which also can reduce fuel usage — are part of CSXT’s participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, which encourages businesses to voluntarily inventory and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
