The Canadian government announced yesterday it will contribute $4.9 million to Ashcroft Terminal near Ashcroft, British Columbia, for the expansion of industrial-zoned land into a multi-use rail facility.

The project is designed to facilitate rail access for shippers within the region, provide more train capacity and improve the movement of goods traveling between the West Coast and Ontario/Quebec region, according to a prepared statement.

“By expanding rail access and rail service at the terminal, more industries will be able to use the facility, and this will lead to greater trade to the Asia-Pacific,” said Chuck Strahl, minister of indian affairs, in a prepared statement.
