In fall, the Port Authority of Allegheny County finally will begin construction on the North Shore Connector project. The Federal Transit Administration recently signed a Full Funding Grant Agreement that will cover a large portion of the project’s $435 million construction cost.

The North Shore Connector will extend the port authority’s 25-mile light-rail line 1.2 miles under the Allegheny River to Pittsburgh’s North Shore. The project is scheduled to be complete in 2011.
