The House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee has marked up the fiscal-year 2007 transportation appropriations bill to meet the overall SAFETEA-LU federal transit program spending level of $8.95 billion, according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).
The bill does not cut $100 million from the New Starts/Small Starts program, as the Bush Administration had proposed. The full committee is expected to review the bill on June 13.
In addition, the House has approved an amendment to the FY2007 Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that would increase transit security funding between $50 million and $200 million, APTA said.
