Charles Riedmiller, co-founder of and partner in short-line holding company Genesee Valley Transportation Co., died Jan. 9 of a heart attack, according to American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association's (ASLRRA) bi-monthly newsletter. He was 61.

Riedmiller served as Genesee Valley's senior vice president of marketing and chief financial officer. He also served as a director for the Railroads of New York, Keystone Railroad Association and customized railroad health plan CREW.

"[Riedmiller] was known as an asset to the short-line rail industry, a source of wisdom in the industry and a friend to us all," ASLRRA officials said.

He is survived by his wife, Diane, three children, two brothers, a sister, and several nieces and nephews.

Founded in 1983, Genesee Valley owns the 75-mile Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad Inc., 12-mile Depew Lancaster & Western Railroad Co., 45-mile Falls Road Railroad Co. Inc., 10-mile Lowville & Beaver River Railroad, and 119-mile Mohawk Andirondack & Northern Railroad Corp., which operate in New York and Pennsylvania.
