The History of Containerization Foundation Inc. (HOC) recently named intermodal veteran and former transportation journalist Stanford Erickson chairman to succeed Michael Berzon, who now will serve as vice chairman.

A HOC board member since the foundation’s formation in 2005, Erickson previously served as vice president of Sea-Land Service — which inaugurated container shipping — and held various positions at the Association of American Railroads and American Trucking Associations. He also served stints as editor and general manager of The Journal of Commerce and Traffic World, and chief executive officer of Farm Journal. Erickson currently is associate publisher of the trucking association’s Transport Topics Publishing Group.

A foundation dedicated to documenting containerization’s 50-year history, HOC also appointed Mediterranean Shipping Co. Executive VP Alan Clifford to the board.
