Weyerhaeuser Co. recently began using TransWorks' Transportation Management System at its Hot Springs, Ark., plant to electronically manage lumber and plywood truck shipments.

Under a first phase, the shipper will automate load tendering and shipment visibility functions to quickly identify and address exceptions.

"This will allow us to provide our carriers with real-time access to receive and send shipment information in many different formats, based on their individual preferences and technology capabilities," said Weyerhaeuser Director of Truck Services Rich Heydon in a prepared statement.

A Norfolk Southern Corp. subsidiary, TransWorks develops and hosts electronic supply-chain tools for the truckload, intermodal and railroad industries.
