This weekend, Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is re-opening light-rail service on a line that has been shut down since February because of a south end double-track construction project.

Trains will once again serve six stops between Camden and North Linthicum. Once the south end project is complete in fall, five other stops will reopen and almost 75 percent of MTA’s system will be double tracked. When the entire project is complete in 2006, all but 2.6 miles will be double tracked; lack of available land will make double-tracking impossible on the remaining portion of the system.

The second track will eliminate delays previously experienced on single-track sections and improve crew access to perform emergency maintenance, according to agency officials.
