The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting a webinar next week Thursday to discuss information, forecasts and strategies contained in its current long-range transportation plan.Known as "Moving Michigan Forward," the plan covers 2005 to 2035, but the upcoming webinar will highlight revisions to extend the planning horizon to 2040, according to an MDOT press release. During the webinar, MDOT officials will provide an overview of the plan and revisions, information about the comment solicitation process, and an extended question and answer session. MDOT is revising the plan in order to maintain the 20-year planning horizon required by federal transportation planning regulations. Since reauthorization of the federal highway program could change these requirements, and since such legislation is still pending in Congress, the revision will be an interim step to keep the plan current, MDOT officials said. A full update will be scheduled at a future time in response to any new requirements resulting from federal reauthorization. The current 2035 transpiration plan and other supporting documents are available on MDOT's website.
