MxV Rail has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with India-based nonprofit Center for Heavy Haul Rail Research and Development (CHHRR&D) to share resources and advance technological innovation.
Under the new MOU, MxV Rail and the center will combine technical expertise and resources to advance rail safety, reliability and sustainability, MxV Rail officials said in a press release.
The partnership is expected to yield new insights, technology and best practices in the key areas of machine learning inspections, advanced flaw detection techniques, predictive analysis for component life and the development of high-capacity wagons, said officials from MxV Rail. The collaboration also calls for research in noise reduction, bridge monitoring and modern materials.
The MOU signing took place during Rail Research Week held Nov. 17-21 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, hosted by MxV Rail. The global event combined two industry conferences: the International Heavy Haul Association Conference and World Congress on Railway Research. The agreement is the second of its kind MxV Rail has announced since the conference. An MOU with the Korea Railroad Research Institute was announced earlier this month.
CHHRR&D operates under the India Ministry of Railways' Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp. of India Ltd., the country's railroad construction, maintenance and operations arm. MxV Rail is the research and engineering subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.
